Will YOU Save Freedom? Catch The Tea Party Wave

The Tea Party movement has taken the nation by storm, in spite of attempts by the media and establishment to first ignore it, then dismiss it and now use all the tools in their Alinsky toolbox against it.  Initially protesting high taxes, spending and bailouts, it is maturing into a political movement that advocates a return to a constitutional republic, fiscal prudence and restoration of liberties.

 Tea Party Threat Made Good

How should the Tea Party address that? Protests? Voter education? Advocacy? Evaluating public officials and candidates?  PACs?  A third party?  Turn out the vote?

What should we be doing? We should be raising the call to action among those not already involved. In this case, the action is the mustering of enough voters committed to making a demonstrable difference in November. We must bring balance and responsiveness back to Washington.

I have read through this thread and am emboldened by so many fellow Americans who care about this Country and where it is headed.

The primary mission of the Tea Party should be to expand the public's awareness of what is happening. We must convert couch-potatoes to voters. It is fun to commiserate with like-minded thinkers but our real mission is to reach and inform those who are not involved.

Americans are a great people. Once inspired to action they do not shy away from the job. We will get this done. We just need to awaken We The People. Given the opportunity they will do the rest.
There are two types of peope we need to reaching:

1. The borderline couch potatoes, who are capable of being inspired to a cause. Ge them to put down the remote, climb out of the Laz-Y-Boy and take up the cause.

2. Those who have become cynical. If people knew how many of us there are, how committed we are and what we are beginning to do, some would join us. One of those people was motivated to contribute to LTC Lakin's defense fund and has also participated in Tea Party activites, a first for him.

Remember-- only 20% of the colonists were committed to the American Revolution. That's all that were needed.

I have already converted two of my three Liberal brothers (it took quite a while). Both are now active in the Tea Party and are even making speeches.
If I wuz uh consurv e tiv kauch per tato, i kud b offend ed bi this. sum uv us kan evun reed!
That's great! That's two less people that we need to work on. Yes, it is frustrating. But we are fighting a war for the preservation of OUR COUNTRY!! It's not theirs! It's OURS! Remember what Glenn always talks about, regarding George Washington and all the battles he LOST! But he eventually won the war.
The Ignorant and the Apathetic. I don't know and I don't care! Those who don't care...not much can be done with them. Those who don't know...can be taught...some of them anyway. That's what we should be...and already are...doing.

Conservatives are conservatives because they have something to conserve. Liberals are liberals because they have nothing to conserve and believe they can only have something to conserve if the government gives it to them. About 1% of the people in the USA control more than 90% of the wealth so you can figure the ratio of liberals to conservatives. So never think conservatives are ever going to make a difference because they are far out numbered!

The USA is not a capitalist country; it’s a corrupted-capitalist country. This is proven by the simple fact that “About 1% of the people in the USA control more than 90% of the wealth.” Under pure capitalism theory this is impossible. So, don’t try to sell American capitalism.

The Tea Party is known as a front for the Republican Party. The common thread to all Tea Party discussions is “how do we change them.” To Tea Party members that means “how do we make them conservatives” but to others it means “how do we turn them into Republicans”. (3) So, never expect the Tea Party, in its current form to influence or save our country.

Instead of the Tea Party trying to figure out what’s wrong with everyone else, it should look at itself though the eyes of others and say “what’s wrong with us?” The answer is simple; it is just another form of a political party. Like it or not, the Tea Party must break away from the Republican Party to have any creditability and needs to support any candidate who run as an Independent.

When we read “An Independent candidate, backed by the Tea Party, won the election we will know we are on our way to recovery. The object is to find common ground and unite!

That’s my opinion.
Darrell,
First, thank you for running in the 23rd District!

Second, in the two books I am working on, I call it, "Democracy, The Greed System: (topic)". Is it semantics to say that we ARE a Capitalist country that has been corrupted? I think we agree that without the corruption capitalism would work.

Then, I would disagree with you that it is necessary for the TP do disassociate itself with the Republican party. Viewed through different eyes, rather than the idea of "changing them" or "how do we turn them into Republicans", some would see it as "how do we open our and their eyes to the common ideas we share."

I agree with you that many TP members are divided into the camps you describe. However, IMO, a Democrat (or as I prefer to describe them, a liberal thinker) moves to the right, even on a few issues, we move to the Independent zone. Likewise, if a conservative thinker moves to the left, even on a few issues, we move again into the Independent zone.

We have gotten so accoustomed to, used to, dependent on the polarities that we forget that we have so many more things in common that are the foundation of the American TPs. IMO if we expect any change in others OR ourselves, we need to work on common ground rather than defining new ground.

A majority of Americans WANT lower taxes, a majority of Americans DO NOT WANT the Nobama Health Care Solution, a majority of Americans WANT a CLOSED BORDER, a majority of Americans WANT term limits, and so on. These ideas transcend political party affiliation. In my mind, we will do better by working towards solutions for those common ideas where the support at the ballot box can get it done, rather than withdrawing and throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I do respect your opinion. This is mine.
In case all you folks don't know, Darrell is the Libertarian candidate for Congressional District 23, running against incumbent Lois Capps and Republican challenger Tom Watson.

Darrell has several other postings on this site,
I respect both of your opinions...Rick and Darrell...and here is mine. Either you believe in, as we say in the pledge, "Liberty and Justice for All", or you don't! There is no common ground on individual liberty. Either we all have it or we don't! Right now I feel we don't...we just think we do! Before I forget, read a short book by Louis Carabini called "Inclined To Liberty", which you can find by doing a Google search for his name and read online. He makes an excellent point that if you change the "collective we" used to imply authority to do something to someone, to just plan old "I" to do the same, the later seems ridiculous and disgusting. For instance, we say "We (collectively as society) don't think John Smith needs to make that much money, so "we" think it's OK for government to tax a good portion away to give to this or that group through taxation!" But change it to "I" and it's somewhat different! "I don't think John Smith needs to make that much money, so I am going to take a good portion of it, and I will give it to this or that group that I feel deserves it more!" We would call this stealing and would frown on someone doing this, would we not? How is the first different from the second example? Using the FORCE of government by passing "laws" seems to legitimize the theft, but it is still THEFT!! IMO the Democrats, and the Republicans (those in power) want to use the force of government to control individuals, just differently. Liberals, democrats, progressives, statists, whatever you want to call them, want to control your pocket book through regulation and taxation, and want to spread the wealth around to the "have nots" and call it "social justice" or "fairness", but it is neither fair, or just!! It infringes on your personal Liberty, and your pursuit of happiness! Republicans on the other hand, (regardless of how I may personally feel on these issues) want to control your personal life choices like gay marriage, smoking pot, and other moral issues. Is it really anyone's business but your own what you do in your private life, so long as it doesn't infringe on someone else's rights. This also infringes on ones personal Liberty, an pursuit of happiness. That is why the founders called for severely limited government, because they knew people with power are always dangerous! That's my opinion.
Every civilization throughout history has struggled with handling their poor and old folks. The Indians would just put the old folks out in the snow. I’m sure glad we aren’t Indians. We cope with our poor and old folks by charging an income tax. It’s as good a solution as any but why taxes are tied to income and not consumption I will never understand. Unfortunately, we also use taxes to pay the debts of an out-of-control Federal Government and to support some very undeserving people.

If we had our government in control, which we did at one time, and stopped supporting the undeserving most of us would accept a tax. The undeserving are both the deadbeats and the super-rich who have created corrupted capitalism. Stopping the deadbeats is simple but stopping the super-rich is near impossible.

Where we differ is that I don’t believe there is a such thing as “pure” Liberty, Justice, Capitalism, Conservatism, Freedom, Private Life, etc. etc. and I believe liberals, democrats, progressives, conservatives, republicans all want to enjoy their lives and their families and would like to stay out of politics and let their government figure out how to take care of the poor and old folks. It is only those people in government who want to control your life and your pocket book. The more they take from you the more important they are! The bigger their budget the more powerful they are! To save our country we will need to unite all the liberals, democrats, progressives, conservatives, republicans who want to enjoy their lives and their families. We need to unite and fight! Just one man's opinion.
Darrell,
Do you see a difference between "Fair Tax" and "Consumption Tax"? I agree that taxes should not be tied to income. However, someone will decide that consuming a certain product will cost "x" dollars. Examples already include alcohol, tobacco and gasoline to name a few. I am thinking that the ultimate "Consumption Tax" would be like the "Cabon Tax". The point is, from sin tax (alcohol & tobacco) to consumption taxes (gasoline & food) to global environmental taxes (Cap & Trade), the same rascals will be defining their political agendas. How will those tax amounts be set, by whom, and how will we keep the politics out of it?

Perhaps I misunderstood your previous comment where you say that the TP should disassociate itself with the Republican party. In this last post of yours, you seem to advocate the unity aproach of banding all thinkers together in the fight. What would be that uniting agency, if not the TP?

Good discussion, IMO.
