Will YOU Save Freedom? Catch The Tea Party Wave

The House of Representatives has been mostly in Democrat hands since WWII, with a couple of respites.  The 2010 elections were a major, historic rout by the Republicans, putting them firmly in control.  This was more of a strong backlash to the extreme Progressive tendencies of the Obama, Pelosi, Reid regime than any great love for Republicans.  So far, they have done better than the Democrats, but are largely a big, cowardly disappointment, funding Obamacare, making mostly illusory cuts, not investigating the Obama excesses, etc.

Ventura County Tea Party recommendations

April, 2010: CA 36th District had a race. Liberal Jane Harmon won re-election in November 2010 and resigned shortly thereafter to join a Liberal think tank, which will cost the state $3MM to hold a special election, About 10 candidates are running, including Debra Bowen (D), current secretary of State. Conservative Craig Huey ran as a Republican, also garnering Libertarian endorsements.  Harman won special election.

2012 candidates have already have  positioned themselves, developing signature issues, stump speeches and lining up support.

Chris Mitchum and Abel Maldonado (brought you Prop 14 and higher taxes), are lining up to oppose Lois Capps (D, Outer Space) in the current CA District 26, which is more competitive than the old Dist 23.  Watson dropped out, to pursue business/personal interests.

Tony Strickalnd is running as the only 26 Dist Republican against "nonpartisan" (LOL!) Linda parks and a gaggle of Democrats. Dem's are pressuring candidates to drop out to avoid splitting the vote in the new nightmare top 2 primary system they created.

Democrats: carpetbagger Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, Oak Park (via People's Republik of Santa Monica); Harbor Commissioner Jess Herrera, Oxnard; real estate broker Al Goldberg, Ventura; businessman David Cruz Thayne, Westlake Village.

Mark Reed has been showing his face at Tea Party meetings and other events. He intends to run against Brad Sherman again.

Redistricting is likely to significantly affect many races.

Announced Dist 23 2012 Republican candidate Chris Mitchum speaks at Lois Capps Obamacare demonstration

Just a little over a year ago, FORMER Speaker Pelosi said, “We have to pass the healthcare bill to know what’s in it.” Then, she shoved it down the gagging throats of the American people. The majority of Americans hated it then.

Miss Emily Miller, a senior editor of HUMAN EVENTS and former Deputy Press Secretary at the U.S. Department of State wrote some thoughts on the Healthcare Bill, then and now. I’d like to share them with you.

1.  Explodes the Budget Deficit

One year ago, Obama said, “This legislation will also lower costs for ...  the federal government, reducing our deficit by over $1 trillion in the next two decades.  It is paid for.  It is fiscally responsible.” Today:  ObamaCare is projected to cost at least $2.4 trillion when it is fully implemented

2.  Kills Jobs

One year ago: Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) said that the health care bill “will create 4 million jobs — 400,000 jobs almost immediately."

Today: The only jobs that have been created from ObamaCare are the tens of thousands of new government bureaucrats who have been hired to deal with all the new regulations and taxes from ObamaCare.

3.  Lose Your Own Doctor and Health Plan

One year ago:  Obama said, “If you like your current insurance, you will keep your current insurance.  No government takeover.  Nobody is changing what you’ve got if you’re happy with it.  If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor.  If you like your plan, you can keep it.”

Today: New regulations could force as many as 87 million Americans to lose their current health care plans and their own doctors.

4.  States’ Budget Deficits Grow to Possible Bankruptcy

One year ago: Obama said, “It will take four years to implement fully many of these reforms, because we need to implement them responsibly.  We need to get this right.”

Today: The states, which already have a collective $175 billion budget shortfall this year, are faced with such huge new mandatory costs from ObamaCare that some are on the verge of bankruptcy.

5.  Higher Insurance Premiums:

One year ago: Obama said that the law will “lower the cost of health care for our families.”

Today: Some Americans have already had a spike in the cost of their insurance premiums of an astounding 20% to 60%.  Insurance companies have raised premiums in double-digit increases.

6.  Crushes Businesses
One year ago: Obama said that the law will “lower the cost of health care” for businesses.

Today: While the economy is barely growing at all, companies are facing a government mandate to provide health care for their employees.  The law will cost at least $50 billion to employers because of these new mandates.

7.  Fewer Americans Have Access to Health Insurance

One year ago: Obama said, “And we have now just enshrined, as soon as I sign this bill, the core principle that everybody should have some basic security when it comes to their health care.”

Today: Employers are facing huge increased costs or fines, and so will be forced to find ways to make fewer employees eligible for health benefits.  Experts estimate that as many as 35 million American workers will lose health care benefits because of the higher cost put on companies from ObamaCare.

8.  Senior Citizens Lose Medicare Coverage:

One year ago: Obama said, “We’re not going to mess with Medicare”.

Today: The health care law cuts nearly $530 billion in Medicare over the next decade, with $200 billion coming from the Medicare Advantage.

9.  Overburdens Small Business

One year ago: Obama said, “This year, we’ll start offering tax credits to about 4 million small businessmen and women to help them cover the cost of insurance for their employees.”

Today: Obama has already conceded that a provision in his law is so onerous to small-business owners that he asked Congress to fix it.

10.  Tax Hikes

One year ago: Obama said, “Millions of people will get tax breaks to help them afford coverage, which represents the largest middle-class tax cut for health care in history.”

Today: The ObamaCare law includes more than $813 billion in total tax hikes over the next decade, which include the penalty for not having health insurance, and taxes on health plans ($60 billion), medical devices ($20 billion), and prescription drugs ($27 billion).”

PLUS we find out that $105 Billion is in the Stimulus package (that Capps voted for) to pre-fund Obama Care!

That’s what Pelosi said. She got it passed, and as we find out what’s in it, the American people hate it even more.

Obama Care needs to be repealed. In 2012, Obama needs to be repealed and his little minion, Lois Capps, a rubber stamp tax raiser for Obama, needs to be repealed!

Craig Huey for Congress

Dear Election Forum Friend,

The Election Forum/Reality Alert response was phenomenal.

And I want to thank you so much for taking the time to respond and give me your opinion about running for Congress.

I read a lot of great comments and insights. I combined this with prayer and seeking wise counsel.

I have decided to run for Congress for the 36th District. The Primary is

Besides the tremendous support and encouragement from Reality Alert readers and pastors, I also took a professional poll that showed I could win.

So far, I've received hundreds of endorsements, including Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and the Tea Party organizers.

Reality Alert will continue—as well as the—whether I win or lose.

The Election Forum influence has been a powerful and growing force in helping Christians know how to vote their values. This momentum and mission will be enhanced, not diminished.

I greatly desire your continued prayers for me in this effort.

If you would like to contribute in support of my campaign, please click here. We need to quickly raise funds for direct mail to voters and much more.

The maximum contribution for a couple is $5,000, or for an individual $2,500. But $500, $100, $50…even $10 would be a great help.

I regret having to ask you for a contribution in these hard times. But anything you can do will help.

We must stop the immoral budget deficit, rising prices and the assault on our liberties. Help me send a loud, powerful message to Congress, President Obama and the media.

Thank you in advance for your support and prayers.

Best wishes,

Craig A. Huey

P.S. Even $10 will make a big difference. My wife Shelly says it's David vs. Goliath. That's why I need your help and support to send a message to Congress that real change and true hope is coming. Will you join me in impacting our society in a profound way?

Also, please show your support by "Liking" my campaign Facebook page, following my campaign on Twitter and joining our prayer coalition.

Reality Alert and Craig Huey for Congress

April 18, 2011

I know he may not be in your district, but he would vote on NATIONAL issues-- G.M.

Dear Reality Alert/Election Forum Friend,

I need your help.

After much prayer and wise counsel, I decided to run for the special congressional election on Tuesday, May 17 for the 36th district.

My wife says this election is like the battle between like David and Goliath. And the first stone: The church and readers of Reality Alert.

We are seeing some amazing results:

  • Over 1,500 have joined our prayer list.
  • Congressman Mike Pence, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, Congressman Ed Royce and many Christian leaders have endorsed me for this race.
  • The just ran a headline “Craig Huey and Janice Hahn lead in CA 36 special election.” Remember, I’m running against not just liberal Janice Hahn, but also Secretary of State Debra Bowen, ultra-liberal Marcy Winograd and several underfunded candidates.

But, I do need your help—badly—to win.

Could you do something you may never have done before—help volunteer for the campaign?

We are in need of people to help in the following ways:

  1. Help visit potential voters. We have a list of potential voters and we need volunteers to go to their homes. Last weekend, supporters from San Gabriel Valley, Long Beach and Orange County came to help. You can work around your own schedule and we give you easy instructions.

Without volunteers, we won’t be able to win. But with them, we can have a victory that will surprise all. We’d be grateful if you could give us time during the week, on a weekend, only once or as often as your schedule permits.

Our next two big efforts are taking place at our Torrance Headquarters:

  • This Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m.
  • The following Saturday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m.

If you can help, please call 310-365-9024 or email me at

  1. Call potential voters. If you can’t come to the office, can you get on the telephones and help call potential voters? We have instructions and a list of people to call anytime in the U.S. If you can help, please call 310-365-9024 or email me at

Thanks so much.

By winning this election, we’ll send a strong a message to the White House, Congress and to the media that a social and economic conservative can win in California. Let’s send shock waves nationwide and create hope and a vision for others.

Thank you again for supporting my campaign.

Best wishes,

Craig Huey places 2nd in CA Dist 36 Primary, qualifying him for July Election!

Are Republicans California Dreaming?

Did Republicans make a surprisingly good showing in the special election primary to fill the 36th congressional district seat vacated by Democrat Jane Harman? You might think so to judge from the Hotline, which notes accurately that Republican self-funder Craig Huey finished second, with 21.9% of the votes, to Democrat Janice Hahn, Los Angeles Councilwoman, who finished first with 24.7%. Huey finished just ahead of Democrat Debra Bowen, California Secretary of State who got 21.5% of the vote. Under California law, the top two finishers now face off in a runoff election. Huey’s apparent second-place finish means Republicans have a chance to capture what has been a Democratic seat since 2000.

But there are a couple of caveats. There are still 9,811 absentee votes to be counted, and California takes a long time to count them. Currently Huey leads Bowen by 206 votes. That’s a lead that could easily be overtaken, in which case the runoff is Democrat versus, with Democrats guaranteed to hold the seat.

The second thing to be said is that the returns show that the six Republican candidates won a total of 41% of the vote while the five Democrats won 57% of the vote. This ratio is almost identical to that in the June 2010 primary, when Democrats won 56% of the total vote and Republicans 41%. Both parties had contests in that primary; Harman was challenged by left-winger Marcy Winograd and beat her by a 59%-41% margin among Democrats—not an overwhelming victory for an incumbent. (To use the metrics we’ve used for the special primary, Harman got 33.2% of the total vote and Winograd got 23.0%, considerably more than the 9.5% she got Tuesday.) But you get a different picture if you go back to the June 2008 primary, in which there was no contest for either major party’s nomination. Then the Democrat got 61% of the total votes and the Republican 39%.

What all this suggests is that the balance between the parties in this upscale beachfront district, which stretches from Santa Monica to the Palos Verdes Peninsula, is basically the same as it was in June 2010 and more favorable to Republicans than it was in June 2008. And we should remember that this has not always been a hugely Democratic district; its predecessor district was won by Republican Steve Kuykendall in 1998 when Harman left the House to run for governor. It has become more Democratic since then, as Republicans’ conservative stands on cultural issues repelled the freethinking folks of the South Bay, with John Kerry carrying the district 59%-40% in 2004 and Barack Obama carrying it 64%-34% in 2008.

The primary returns suggest that it’s not as heavily Democratic today as it was in 2008, but still Democratic. Republican Craig Huey’s $300,000 in radio and TV ads may have enabled him to make the runoff—hold the champagne until all the absentees are counted—but he doesn’t look like a favorite for the runoff election. But if he does win, it will or at least should be big news.

The election hit the editorial page of the Wall St Journal today as an example of how important the economy has become as THE issue and that the Democrats have a major fail on their hands.

Republican Craig Huey is slugging it out in a hard-fought campaign against Janice Hahn of a family political dysnasty. Huey dispensed with the other major Dem challenger, Secy. of State Debra Bowen, in the prinmary.

Subject: Laura Richardson could face jail time

Friend --

I thought you'd find interesting the following breaking news. It's about my Congressional opponent from 2010 who is in very serious trouble.

Your foot-soldier for freedom!

Democratic Rep. Laura Richardson could face jail time for ethics violations

By Jonathan Strong

New documents disclosed in a complaint from the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) appear to show California Democrat Rep. Laura Richardson and her staff clearly violating congressional ethics rules and potentially federal law.

The documents show Richardson using official taxpayer resources for political events, including fundraisers. “Rep. Richardson didn’t just violate House rules, she likely committed crimes,” said Melanie Sloan, CREW’s executive director.

In one instance, Richardson’s chief of staff, Shirley Cooks, told all of Richardson’s aides in an email from her official House account, “All staff are required to attend” a fundraiser held Sept. 29, 2010, adding, “Bring spouses and tell interns they have to be there as well. Thanks.”

Another staffer, Daysha Austin, then a district scheduler, told staffers, “The Congresswoman is asking all staff that one has to wear their staff shirt to tomorrow’s event so we can be visible and easily identified.”

The “staff shirt,” pictured in CREW’s complaint, features a logo that says “California’s 37th Congressional District,” the district that Richardson represents.

The demands on staff to attend a fundraiser and use of official email accounts and resources to coordinate political activities clearly violate congressional ethics rules that taxpayer dollars “may not pay for campaign expenses.”

A strict wall separates official congressional office work from political campaigning; lawmakers and their staff may not even make one phone call for campaign purposes from a congressional office phone, for instance.

While it’s not uncommon for lawmakers to stretch these rules to a degree, flagrant rule breaking in written documents is highly unusual.

CREW included the documents in a complaint to the FBI asking for an investigation. The watchdog group says Richardson’s conduct likely violated federal law. One lawyer told The Daily Caller if Richardson was found guilty of these allegations the maximum jail sentence would be around 13 years, but given Richardson’s lack of criminal history, she would probably be sentenced to less than five years in jail.

Another email included in the complaint shows Richardson asking staff to prepare her for political events.

Richardson “has an event this Saturday (something along the lines of ‘California Dem Party Endorsement’) and she asked staff prepare a binder for her. She needs a lot of the same information that she needed for her last endorsement event (was it Sunday?). I was hoping you could compile a binder again using the same materials from last weekend,” wrote Lucinda Richard, a legislative assistant to Richardson in a March 17, 2010 email.

Another email shows active involvement by Richardson herself regarding one of her official staffer’s political activities.

When staffer Thorne Maginnis requested vacation time to volunteer in a Tennessee congressional campaign, Richardson expressed umbrage she hadn’t been consulted on where Maginnis would campaign.

“I am disturbed by this. I have never authorized any staff to communicate to the [Democratic Congressional Campaign Committeee (DCCC)]. I certainly never authorized staff to consider a specific seat. Those are my decisions. The direction was if someone was interested to see me and NOT to go and do what he has done,” Richardson wrote from a personal email account.

CREW’s complaint and the newly disclosed documents come on the heels of allegations in March by an outgoing staffer that Richardson required official staffers to work on her reelection campaign.

In a March 3, 2011 resignation letter, Maria Angel Macias also claimed Richardson subjected her to “constant verbal and emotional abuse.”

“My doctor recommended I take time off,” Macias wrote, apparently due to stress. Attached was a note from Macias’ doctor.

Macias told the Contra Costa Times in a March 14 interview Richardson required staffers to work on her campaign, a major violation of congressional ethics rules and potentially federal law.

“She would just ask me to call them and tell them to come to the campaign office,” Marcias told the Times, “She would ask me to schedule people (staff members and drivers to accompany Richardson) for campaign fundraisers for other elected officials.”

A spokeswoman for Richardson denied Marcias’ allegations at the time.

Republicans quickly pounced on the revelations Tuesday. One GOP House aide said, “This isn’t surprising. This is the same member that doesn’t feel the need to pay her mortgages on time, why would she respect the rule of law?”

In the CREW complaint, the most explosive email is from Cooks demanding all staff attend a fundraiser.

The subject of the Sept. 27, 2010 email, sent to every staff member at Richardson’s Washington, D.C. Office, was “Wednesday at 5:00pm.”

The full email said, “All staff are required to attend Ms. Richardson’s event. Bring spouses and tell interns they have to be there as well. Thanks.”

The week the email was sent, Richardson was holding a fundraiser on Wednesday at 6:00pm with an “American Idol” theme.

“Please Join Speaker Nancy Pelosi for Congresswoman Laura Richardson’s 1st Ever Democratic Idol Fundraiser,” a flyer for the event says.

Other emails from staffers confirm Cooks’ demand for staffers to attend “Ms. Richardson’s event” at “Wednesday at 5:00pm” was a demand they attend the fundraiser.

For instance, the email from Austin, demanding staff wear their special office shirts to “tomorrow’s event,” has the subject “Rep. Richardson’s Democratic Idol,” the name of the fundraiser.

Additionally, one unidentified staffer threatens to resign from the office because the person felt they were being pressured to attend a political event held the night of Wednesday, Sept. 29.

“Daysha just told me I’ll be taking photos at the event tonight. I explained to her I would be leaving early and she ignored. If this is not somehow rectified I am prepared to tender my resignation effective immediately. I am completely serious about this. In addition, for your information, I will be taking action against this office through House leadership if I am forced to go this route,” the unidentified staffer said.

Cooks told this person to “calm down” and help find a replacement to substitute for him or her.

Richardson spokesman Ray Zaccaro said he would be releasing a statement on the allegations shortly.

CA-23 targeted for GOP takeover

Dear Friend,

I  wanted to give you an update on the status of the redistricting effort and share some recent developments that are very encouraging for us.  The initial new boundries proposed for the 23rd Congressional District are much more rational than our current infamous and aburd "Ribbon of Shame".  Essentially it is about as good as could be hoped for from our perspective and consists of all of San Luis Obispo County, all of Santa Barbara County and a small area of northern Ventura County to pick up a few thousand people.   Here is a map of the new proposed district and analysis of how it would have voted in the previous election:

Visualization and analysis of proposed new district

We would have likely won this district in the last election due how well we performed relative to our party registration and past challengers and how poorly Mrs. Capps performed relative to previous elections.

This fact has not gone unnoticed in Washington, D.C.  Two groups have already begun running frequent advertisements against Mrs. Capps on TV here locally.  The first is the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) which is responsible for winning House seats.  Mrs. Capps was the first Democratic representative they have targeted for 2012.  Here is a link to watch their TV ad:

NRCC ad about Rep. Capps

In addition to the NRCC, an outside independent group called Crossroads GPS that was started by Karl Rove has named this district as one of their top ten Republican takeover targets for 2012.  Here is a link to view their latest advertisement:

Crossroads ad about Rep. Capps

This is unusually early to begin a media campaign against an incumbent and is a strong indicator of how vulnerable they believe she is.   I do as well.  Given these encouraging developments and the probability of significant outside support this coming election, it is obvious that we are very well positioned to win this seat.

I greatly appreciated your generous support during 2010 and that support has paid dividends and put us in great position to win in 2012.  All of the time and effort on the last campaign has laid the groundwork for a successful challenge in 2012 and I am asking for your support again as we gear up for the coming election.

For the 2012 election cycle the maximum contribution per election is $2500, any support is sincerely appreciated and I need your support to win.  The stakes for our country could not be higher.

I would also really welcome your input and suggestions.  Please email me directly at

Thanks again for all of your support in 2010 and let's build on that for a successful 2012.  With your support we will win this.

The administration’s attempt to intimidate Fox News and its employees will not succeed and their excuses will stand neither the test of law, the test of decency, nor the test of time. We will not allow a climate of press intimidation, unseen since the McCarthy era, to frighten any of us away from the truth.

"There are 27 amendments in the Constitution but only one says 'shall not be infringed,'" Steve Toth said. "The Second Amendment is the amendment that keeps the people free."

“The States then being the parties to the constitutional compact, and in their sovereign capacity, it follows of necessity, that there can be no tribunal above their authority, to decide in the last resort, whether the compact made by them be violated; and consequently that as the parties to it, they must themselves decide in the last resort, such questions as may be of sufficient magnitude to require their interposition.” – James Madison

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” - "Obama", 2008

"A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don't have one, you'll probably never need one again."

This country does not need to have a conversation about how many bullets should go in a clip. It does need to have a conversation about how many parents should go in a family. It needs to talk about the ghettos of Obamerica and have a serious conversation about broken families and generational dependency. It needs to have a conversation about funneling new immigrants from broken parts of the world into areas already suffering from high levels of unemployment and street violence.- Daniel Greenfield

A federal government which does not derive its lawful and limited authority from the Constitution of the United States is by definition an occupation government and criminal regime.  It’s authority is null and void and no one is bound by any rule of law to obey it. --Donald L. Cline

Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty." -- Thomas Jefferson

“Disarmament of the populace is always the first step to depriving them of their civil rights and human rights…many African-Americans and women are actively assaulting the very document that first secured their own freedom... if you do not believe in the Bill of Rights, then you are not, at heart, an American.” – Mike Adams

Only in America could liberals talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000 a plate campaign fund raising event.

We need to demythologize guns before the liberal attempt to create a totemic fear of them succeeds. If the gun control mentality promoting fear of guns themselves becomes our national mentality, we would turn the clock back to the days when a warrior class ruled over the people because only they had the confidence and expertise to deploy the means of defense and coercion. The gun control agenda will turn us into a people too timid to defend themselves from our would-be masters. – Alan Keyes

So now that there is a new tragedy the president wants to have a “national conversation on guns”. Here’s the thing. Until this national conversation is willing to entertain allowing teachers to carry concealed weapons, then it isn’t a conversation at all, it is a lecture. – Larry Correia'

How can we stand up to someone that creates a 100 dollar Federal Reserve (FR) note for 2 cents and uses the face value of the note of 100 dollars to buy a 100 dollar U.S. Security where the government has to pay them 4% in interest at the end of the year? A yearly cost of 4 FR notes where it only cost the FR 2 cents to print.

This is the biggest Conspiracy you may ever encounter and this started sometime around 1913. Yes, your parents and their parents had so much of their time stolen from them at a cost of 2 pennies. “Capital must protect itself in every possible way, both by combination and legislation. Debts must be collected, mortgages foreclosed as rapidly as possible. When, through the process of law, the common people lose their homes, they will become more docile and more easily governed through the strong arm of government applied by a central power of wealth under leading financiers. These truths are well known among our principal men who are now engaged in forming an imperialism to govern the world. By dividing the voter through the political party system, we can get them to expend their energies in fighting for questions of no importance. It is thus by discreet action we can secure for ourselves that which has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished.”

"Sixty-one percent of debt issued by the Treasury is bought by the Federal Reserve -- which is to say the left hand of the U.S. Government is lending money to the right hand of the US Government. ... Nonetheless, in a land where every mewling babe in the American nursery is born with a debt burden of just under $200,000, the president brags that only his party is 'compassionate' to have no plan whatsoever even to attempt to do anything about this, no way, no how, not now, not ever." --columnist Mark Steyn

No doctrine involving more pernicious consequences was ever invented by the wit of men that any of its great provisions can be suspended during any of the great exigencies of government."

Permit me to hint whether it would not be wise and seasonable to provide a strong check to the admission of foreigners into the administration of our national government ; and to declare expressly that the command in chief of the American army shall not be given to, nor devolve on any but a natural born citizen.

"The actual need for a service, its relevance and value is always subordinate to the bureaucracy. This is the difference from the private sector: you go into a shop, and the sales assistant asks, 'Can I be of assistance to you, sir?' You go into a government agency: 'Get to the back of the queue and wait until you are called!”'
