Impeach Obama- Simi Valley, CA 4/5/14

There are, sadly, several reasons why Obama's impeachment and conviction are unlikely.  For brevity's sake, I focus on three.

First, impeachment and conviction of a federal official rarely happen.  In the 225 years since the Constitution was ratified, only two presidents -- Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998 -- have been impeached, but neither was convicted.

Second, although the impeachment process is not supposed to be a partisan affair, it is decidedly political.  Take just the two presidents' cases opponents could not induce a majority of senators to vote for either impeachment charge against them.

That experience seems to have left a sour taste for the impeachment process among many GOP country clubbers.

The following is politically incorrect, but so it goes.  The third reason that Obama is unlikely to be impeached is race.   I have no idea of how large portions of the black populace would react to a move to impeach Obama, but given the facts that 90+% of blacks voted for him in 2008 and 2012 and 80% approve of his job performance in Gallup's latest poll (11/11-17/13), they are likely to be his stout defenders.

One gets to the race card's core when one confronts the frequently-made charge -- think of Oprah Winfrey -- that any criticism of Obama stems from racism.  Given ruling class whites' extreme sensitivity to anything involving race, it takes no imagination to predict how they would react to a proposal to impeach and convict Obama.

If country club Republicans join with ruling class Democrats to circle the wagons around Obama, the probability that he will remain in the White House until January 20, 2017 becomes a certainty.

Look at the bigger picture Don. Bubba Clinton's Presidency was made into a joke after the impeachment affair, which was for considerably less serious things than "Obama" is guilty of. Read:

Clinton's Presidency was emasculated after the impeachment hearings. He accomplished little of significance after that except for pardoning criminals and stealing White House furnishings. You forgot to mention Nixon. He wasn't impeached, but was FORCED to resign, merely because of the credible threat of impeachment. Carter was defeated in the 1980 election because of credible attacks on his performance.

It's past time to play hardball, Don. Obama is literally dismantling the Republic, with the help of his allies. There is no comparable "President" in the history of the nation.  We need a major, exhaustive effort to neutralize or eliminate Obama from political life. Simply wringing one's hands and doing nothing isn't an option. Neither is electing weaklings or people of questionable ideologies such as Bushes, Christie, Gorell, etc.
