I just picked up a copy of The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution (Kevin Gutzman)
I've heard very good things about this book, we shall see., I start reading it tonight.
Funny thing, I read The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution, to bad Gutzman doesn't actually believe anything he wrote in his book.
Nicole has just released our first reading list! Download the attached PDF file, above: Patriot_Reading_List_by_Nicole100405.pdf
So much to read and so little time. I am reading the Manchurian President and Game Change now. Both shoould be on our reading list. I am also reading the Federalist Papers. The insight they provide into the minds of our Founders is worthwhile and enlightening.
GREAT JOB Nicole, that had to take a lot of work. Maybe this book, The Real Lincoln: A New Look at Abraham Lincoln, His Agenda, and an Unnecessary War, by Thomas DiLorenzo should be on the list as it tells more of the truth about Abraham Lincoln instead of the fabrications.
Hi Nicole!
What a great list, and a great site! I concur with Nelson Ward...I've read his suggested book by Thomas DiLorenzo, "The Real Lincoln..." it's excellent! Here are some suggestions to add if you like:

Hamilton's Curse by Thomas DiLorenzo
Lies My Government Told Me (new) by Judge Andrew Napolitano
The Income Tax: Root of All Evil by Frank Chodorov
Inclined to Liberty by Louis Carabini
The Law by Frederic Bastiat
(The last three on my list are available through mises.org)

...more to come as I think of them...
I just finished reading Atlas Shrugged. Somehow this book escaped my notice in previous years so I thought I'd catch up with it.

As most of you know it is a long read: the paperback is over 1,000 pages of very fine print - but it is well worth it. As I read, I found myself involved in the plight of the characters and the tone of the story. I learned a lot, and the book re-inforced many concepts which I had already formed but had not organized or stated in clear terms.

While the book takes the impact of socialism to extremes, it is not far-fetched to think that we are headed down the very same path. Obama and the liberal left are not much different from the 'bad guys' in Atlas Shrugged.

If you have any interest in politics, economics, liberty, and gaining a perspective on what's happening in the world around us, this book is well worth the time.

Best regards,
Lee
THE 5000 YEAR LEAP

I found The 5000 Year Leap to be an excellent introduction to the creation of the U. S. Constitution. Not only does it cover the Constitution itself, but it provides the perspective from which the Founders created the document - and thus helps with its interpretation. As you may know, the Founders were extremely well read in history, philosophy, theology, politics, and economics - much more so than most current scholars. Their perspective was not merely based on the state of the world in the late 1700's, but on 5,000 years of history. It is from that broad and comprehensive understanding of economic and political history that our Constitution was born. It is from that same understanding which it should be perpetuated. Few, if any, people alive today have an equivalent background.

Another positive feature of the book is that it sticks to the facts. It does not attempt to re-interpret the Constitution or look at it from a new perspective. Instead, it reinforces the premise that the original perspective was, and still is, the proper one. It provides one with the basic facts needed to make one's own decisions and judgments.

Despite the subject, the book is a relatively light and easy read. It would be excellent as an introduction to the Constitution. I am requiring my teenage son and daughter to read it prior to turning 18 and becoming eligible to vote. Even though it is introductory in nature, I learned a great deal from it and keep it handy as a reference.

If I were on the committee to recommend books for inclusion in the curriculum of our schools, this would be one of the foundational texts.

Best regards,
Lee
I agree...5000 year leap was excellent! One thing that really jumped out at me was the fact that in the 1700's they were using basically the same primitive tools for farming etc., but after their experiment with our system of individual rights and liberty, the massive amount of progress and innovation and advancement in technology over the last 200 plus years because of their 5000 year "leap" of faith!
2010 Take America Back – A Battle Plan

So you are angry at you representatives in Sacramento and Washington. Unhappy with one or both Parties? Feeling like the Country is headed in the wrong direction? Frustrated that your voice is not heard or, if heard, not listned to. Want to do something but don’t know what to do. There is a book you should read. It is 2010 Take America Back – A Battle Plan by Dick Morris and Eileen McGann.

There are a lot of books to read these days and many reflect on what is happening. They all come with their biases. What makes Take Back America different is that there is a very practical section on what you and I can do this year as we appraoch the 2010 election in November.

The authors do a fairly good job (like so many others) of describing the dangers of where the current (and in part the last) Administration is taking the Country. Supported with charts and tables it paints a bleak picture of what will happen if We the People sit on our hands and do nothing. The second section identifies those incumbents who are at risk and why we should focus on these indivduals to bring about a change in November. We only have so much time, so much energy, so much impact. The message is clear. Focus your energy to make a difference.

The most valuable part of the book, section three, is a How To call to action. They address both the message and the means.

Have you ever tried discussing politics with a Liberal? Their minds just work differently. From their philosophic perspective arguments based on facts and pragmatic realities just don’t penetrate their thought processes. Civility quickly deteriorates into angry exchanges. These exchanges are non-productive and polarizing. The authors describe how to penetrate that veneer of alturism. Read the book. It deserves more than a quick recap here.

The authors also outline what you and I can do in the age of the Internet. We can use the modern technology available to us to spread the word and mount an offensive. Our telephones, the Internet and email gives us power. The power to get our message out. It describes ways each of us can become involved depending on our willingness to get off our hands and actually do something.

I don’t know about you but I am no longer sitting back content to let others care for my Country. It is my time to try to serve; to make a difference.

Get the book then get to work. There is not a lot of time left!
I'm reading it now too, especially Part Two: The Targets and Part Three: The Strategy. Folks, if you're serious about taking back America, this is for you.
George...regarding taking back America...been thinking about hosting fun educational events, planning strategy, and the like, sharing reading stuff, and just get together with friends and fellow patriots. Have access to facility with movie screen, kitchen, stage (if we were to get speakers) plenty of seating with round tables. Could use some help putting together...interested?

Stand Up For Religious Freedom! at VC Government Center- Victoria and Telephone

June 8, 2012 from 11:30am to 1:30pm
The "Obama" Administration has taken unprecedented steps to restrict religious freedom. Last month, we demonstrated highly visibly and vocally, not only with about 350 people in Ventura, consisting of parishioners, students, clergy, friends, allies/Tea Partiers, but hundreds of thousands nationwide. In June, we…See More
