Event Description

We would love to flip these seats in DC and Sacramento (23rd Congressional Dist. & 41st CA State Assy Dist.), both currently held by mega-spending enemies of Tea Party principles.

Lana is managing the walk in Oxnard Shores, the Ventura Keys (out of Terry's district), Pierpont, Mandalay, Seabridge, Port Hueneme, River Edge and probably other areas. Contact her on this site: "Libery Bella" or If there are other areas you want to walk for Tom, call her also. There are 8 part-time people helping her, but we need more Tea Power to cover these thousands of households in acity of 200,000 people. With sample ballots already out and absentee ballots going out, the best time is RIGHT NOW!

For those of you unfamilar with precinct walking, it involves going door to door in neighborhoods, usually in pairs, to take our message about candidates and issues directly to voters. This is not a Tea Party sell. In fact, we don't even mention the Tea Party, unless we think people are inclined in that direction. It's really quite interesting and rewarding. The weather has been great (until Saturday, anyway, when it rained) and the beach beckons close by.

We need additional assistance to get these large areas of high-propensity voters in our favor, along with others who may need some persuading. Since Republicans are not in the majority, we must do that.

Tom and Terry are both fine citizen-candidates, military background, squeaky clean, self-employed entrepreneurs that you can be proud to assist. Easy to sell to multi-partisan audiences, except Liberals.

I'm gonna walk one more day on Monday because:

1- I can't bear the thought that we might lose by just a few votes and it would be my fault if I didn't do al I could do. Have you?
2- I still have some brochures left.

If anyone wants to join me, email me at

I continued walking in Port Hueneme today, West of Ventura Road. It's a strange neighborhood: old run down houses, right next to the port and the base, some fixed up nice, with almost new developments of nicer houses tucked in by Ventura Road. Only 700 registered Republicans in this precinct of over 2700 registered voters. Lots of opportunities, as Tom Watson would say. With only 30% Republicans in the district, we can only win with DTS and Dem swing votes.

In spite of that, I ran into some open minded and neutral people, including some hard core Conservatives-- Anglo and Latino. Almost everyone spoke English. I invited several people to Tom's Party at Oxnard Beach Park at 2 PM. I was quite pleased that two showed up and talked to me there. The highlight of the day was a visit to a real grungy looking house with pickups parked outside, garage door open, with all kinds of junk all around and two very slick Harleys in the garage. As I walked up the driveway, I was thinking that it wasn't very promising. I asked two very bad looking biker types if Mr. ___ still lived here. No, they said. Just on a whim, I presented Tom's brochure and started talking. Not only had they heard of him, but were enthusiastic about his military background and prospects of kicking Capps' A__. These guys were familiar with the issues. I had to turn down the beer they offered, and accept water instead. Before I knew it, I had been there 15 minutes. Prior to leaving, I gave them a Tea Party voter guide, since they were totally baffled by all the judges running (our #1 email question received, by the way). I noticed on the way out that one of the pickups had an old Clark Venderveter sticker and a "Not a Nazi" sign. The older guy gave me a Teamster ball point pen and said "not all union guys are alike."

Quit walking at 1:15 PM and went over to Tom Watson's party at Oxnard Beach! Food and fekllowship were fabulous/ Tom has been through hel this year, but you would never know it for looking at him and talking with him. He has matured politically, Imagine how he'll be in DC.

Bill and companion, Mike, Sharon, Ken and I finished up the Hueneme beach areas yesterday.

We're going to expend our remaining brochures today in the area just north and west of the beach area we finished yesterday. This appears to be military base-related housing on the West side of Ventura Road. East of there is heavily Democrat. Looks like we'll have four people today.

Lana's report from yesterday:
Good morning!
What a great day for getting things accomplish when we walked precincts. There were seven of us who walked River Ridge: Mona, La Donna, Jane, Tom, Mary, Ed, and myself. We meet at 10:00 am in the River Ridge parking lot and began walking around 10:20 am. We divided up the area and spent about 4 1/2 hours walking the area. We completed the development between Gonzales, and Vineyard running North and South and from Ventura Rd/ Vineyard as it curves into Gonzales East and West. After refreshing with something to eat and drink at B.J's, we were going to the area across from Oxnard HIgh School, but found that this is a gated guarded area and was unable to get into the complex, after several attempts. Anyway there is a little area above Vinyard and West of the golf course that we could still do, we don't have the precinct walking papers - but at this point I don't think we need them - if we decide to walk the area. I am about tired of walking for hours though. I have brochures left for Tom, if anyone wants them.

Oct 28, Thursday

Teams continue to work in Oxnard East of Victoria and South of Wooley (Sharon, Ken, Silvia and more), Ventura Keys (Lana, Sharon, Mary and others, Port Hueneme beach area (George, Mike, Bill, Laurin). River Edge to be started shortly. Eric is working downtown Oxnard.

Pierpont, Oxnard Shores, Mandalay, Silverstrand, Seabridge, Westport and Hollywood Beach are done, except for a few inaccessible areas.

I have been slogging through large condo and apartement compelxes in Hueneme. There is gold to be mined there, as there is a core of solid Republicans, many decline to states and some wavering Democrats. I made progress with several Democrats yesterday, but also ran into some hard-core left-wing types, but only 3. I have learned not to waste much time arguing with such people, who have bult up their belief system over many years and won't be turned a week before the election. About 25% of people I talked to on Thursday said that they have already voted.

Oct 26- Finished up Hollywood Beach. Wasout of names, waiting for new lists. Received lists for Port Hueneme Beach and lower naval base area, as well as River Edge tonight.

Oct 27- Mike, Laurin and I attacked the Hueneme Beach area, near the Pier. Mike lives there and knows it like the back of his hand, well enough to stay away from Surfside IV, the largest and most maze-like complex, which is a nightmare to walk. It took me until 630 to finish. Laurin brought along 3 year old son Cass on his bicycle, which did not at all work out well, with the complex walking, stairs and serpentine passages to doorways there. That experiment ended quickly. Mike finished up his home turf area and will be back for more. It was unusually hot for beach weather today, reaching up into the 80's with strong winds blowing, necessitating securing of literature dropped off when no one answers. Ocean, pier and islands views through the palm trees were breathtaking. I finally have enough Rathbun flyers to give out more freely, at least until Friday.

Lana's crew is continuing to work the Keys. She is a workhorse!

We will finish Hollywood Beach today and start the Hueneme Beach area tomorrow (Wednesday). Please contact us if interested in helping us there or also in River Edge. Lana's other team is finishing up in the Ventura Keys, before doing River Edge and is always recruiting.

Yesterday, Ed and I put up about 40+ signs for Yes on 23, some for Tom Watson and Mike Stoker. We need to make sure that these Environmental Restrictions are lifted so we can get people in this state back to work. Please talk to everyone you know and make sure they VOTE YES on 23!
Comment by Ventura Patriot on October 25, 2010 at 10:04pm
Well, I thought I would finish up Silverstrand Beach today, but that was not to be. Problems resulted in a late start. I also had to connect with Terry Rathbun to get more brochures and signs. By the time he caught up with me on Sunset drive, it was getting colder, strong winds were blowing sand over Ocean Drive.. By the time we talked, transferred brochures and traded war stories, it was getting nearer to dusk, before he left and I got back to walking.

I ran into an interesting assortment of people today, ranging from solid Conservatives to a raving radical Socialist. Some people were quite concerned about the economic/financial health of the nation. They were receptive to voting for guys like Tom and Terry. Some are voting the whole Republican ticket. A few were of a more Liberal bent. More were disengaged. Some told me that they already voted and didn't want to talk about it. Some said "I voted for your guys."

I have been precinct walking for nearly a month. Tonight I ran into a friend of an opponent (Lois Capps) of my favorite Congressional candidate, Tom Watson. The guy is a foaming the mouth radical, left wing socialist- loves Obama, thinks O is an economic genius--Bernanke too. Actually overtly supports death panels, even freely allowing me to use the term unchallenged.

He thinks Lois is very intelligent. I asked him to watch the videos of the debate and see if he still agreed. He said he didn't need to. He kept on dissing the "Tea Party," ascribing all sorts of terrible things to them, never knowing I am a local TP activist. I hung around about 15 minutes, just to fathom the depths of orthodox left-wing stupidity. It was every bit as bad as I have been led to expect.

We agreed on virtually nothing, but he didn't want to stop talking. Finally, I told him I needed to move on and talk to people I can actually influence. We parted on good terms.

Also, two people at different times came running after me to talk, after the people who answered the door had shooed me away. It seems that after they found out I had been turned away, they both chased after me to apologize and embrace our candidates. Both thanked me for what we are doing. I asked both if they would help us. Neither one took me up on it. One was a Libertarian psychotherapist who was formerly a musician. The other one didn't say.
